Kevin Common's Accident - 'From The Horses Mouth'
Kevin Commons is now back at home following his accident last Wednesday ( the 30th May ). Because it is clear to him that news of the incident is getting out like 'chinese whispers' he has asked for his definitive article to be published - below.
We all wish him a speedy recovery and look to see him back on his bike soon.
'Some of you will know by now that I sustained a fractured hip when out on last Wednesday's Ratae R.C. club run. We were proceeding out of Lutterworth, preparing to join the A4304 at one of the roundabouts on the bypass before crossing the A5 on our way to the garden centre at Barnacle for our tea stop. Unfortunately, there had been a spillage of diesel oil on the far side of the roundabout, so as we made the right hand turn the bikes slipped from under myself and Helen Weston. Jeff Jones, with immaculate bike handling skills managed to get through in front of us, so we couldn't bring him down to make the hat-trick! It was also fortunate that John Crookes and Bill Coleman had had to turn back at Gilmorton for other engagements and that there were fewer riders than normal because of the evening 10. I understand that Helen was shaken and has a broken helmet, whereas I had the pleasure of visiting A&E at the LRI by ambulance, from where I was transferred the following day, for a total hip replacement at the LGH. I came home on Bank Holiday Monday and am able to walk with crutches but I shall be unable to drive for at least 6 weeks'.
Best Wishes
Kevin
